Odin

Wednesday is named after Odin. The chief of the Norse Gods was married to Frigg, the most powerful Goddess in Asgard. The one-eyed God was known to make great sacrifices, and despaired over all that was unbeknownst to him. He hung himself in Yggdrasil, the world tree, for nine days and nine nights. Hanging there, half dead, half alive, he learned the secrets of the world, including the magic of runes. His eight-legged horse, Sleipner, was the fastest horse in all the nine worlds, and could run on land, water and in the air.
